Enhance Your Personal Brand With Social Media

Building your personal brand is a process, and within that process you have to maintain a consistent reputation both online and in the real world. Social media outlets are becoming a go-to medium of building personal brands because it targets consumers where they are: online. Not only can social media help you sustain a consistent character, but it lets you interact with the community around your brand while continually building it through social networking.

In our technological age, social media is where you can find out where your target audience is, what they want, and how you can improve based on knowing your customers and your competitors. Facebook, Twitter and even LinkedIn are some of the prime sources of where you should look to network online. Reaching out to customers and learning what they think about your products or services and communicating with them in a positive way can help others perceive you as a credible and likeable brand. If you have a customer who is unsatisfied and shows it within their social community, it also gives you the opportunity to personally reach out to them to let them know that you aren't just another faceless corporation.

You don't have to join every social media outlet available. Do some research on where your audience is spending most of their time online. One social media site may be better than another for building a community around your specific industry, and targeting those sites can help you build a more tight knit community focused around those who spend their time on that specific website. Joining too many social networks can end up being overwhelming and can cost you consistency if you are too busy dedicating time to one over another. Concentrating on those that actually create progression will be your best bet in building a community around your brand.

Creating social media content is another focus to help build your reputation as an expert in what you do. Many personal brands' social media campaigns fail because they may not post enough content, or they do not brand themselves as an expert in their field. By letting others know that you are passionate about what you do, you build a more credible and reliable persona that others see as successful. You can also create blogs and articles related to your field and post them on Facebook or Twitter so you can keep building that credibility. Create a distinct personality that sets you apart from the rest and that will draw customers in and that will build trust between you and your community.
